Snorkelling in Bermuda

It’s not necessary to go diving to get a close-up view of Bermuda’s marine life; snorkelling in Bermuda can be an equally rewarding experience. The visibility in the water is excellent (200 ft in winter and 100 ft in summer) and the waters warm (averaging around 81 F in summer). The reefs are healthy and generally close to shore, and the fish abundant and colourful.

Snorkelling is possible at most of Bermuda’s beaches but Church Bay and Tobacco Bay Beach are particularly good locations. They also have concessions where visitors can hire masks, snorkels and fins.

Some of the best snorkelling is found too far from the shore for swimming. However, the following companies all offer some sort of snorkelling tour that often takes in a shipwreck:

Those who wish to drop anchor when and where they want can hire a motor boat. Companies providing this service include:

Additionally, the cruise ships visiting Bermuda generally offer some sort of snorkelling tour as part of their shore excursion program.

Arriving Sep 2011--will Louis Ooi be there with snorkling gear rentals?

I have always enjoyed Tobacco Bay. But really love Church Bay the most.

Don't go to Snorkel Park at Royal Naval Dockyard! We were just there on a cruise May 22, 2009 and had our whole last day planned around snorkeling there. By 10.30 am they were out equipment (there were not many people there). The bar/cafe was horrid and the mini-sub that they advertise was not there at all. All the employees were very unapologetic about anything. Others I talked to said the water was cloudy and you couldn't see anything anyway. Go to Tobacco Bay or on one of the boats.

Try Tobacco Beach. $20 all day and some really nice fish/coral structures.

I was just at the Dockyard from a Royal Caribbean cruise. It was awesome!

There's also the snorkel park at Royal Naval Dockyard. It's only open in the summer I think. It also has a bar and cafe.
