Somerset Long Bay
Situated in a park, Somerset Long Bay boasts a long stretch of white sand. The waters remain shallow 100 yards from the shoreline and offer excellent opportunities for snorkelling. The adjacent park has restrooms and a large grassy area with picnic tables. No wonder then that Somerset Long Bay is a firm favourite for families with children.
The Somerset Long Bay Nature Reserve sits adjacent to the beach. It was a former garbage dump which was purchased by the kindly folk of the Bermuda Audubon Society. The reserve has a freshwater pond and is an important wetland habitat for resident waterfowl, such as moorhens, and migratory birds. The society has undertaken an extensive program to replace invasive species of trees with endemic Bermuda cedar and palmetto. A nature trail has been constructed to guide visitors through the reserve.
