Carole Holding

Carole Holding may just have the solution for those who want to take home a piece of Bermudian artwork but don’t want to spend a fortune. English-born Carole came to Bermuda in 1968 and is one of the island's most renowned artists.

She is famed for her watercolour paintings depicting elements of Bermudian life. Her stores sell the originals for $1000 and up, but there's a range of lithographs on sale for those willing to compromise just a little on originality. Artist proofs (50 made) go for around $75, limited editions (495 made) average around $40 while open editions are on sale for anything between $10 and $25. Bone china mugs, chopping boards, notecards, and T-shirts bearing her artwork are also available.

The locations and features depicted in her works include Horseshoe Bay, Bermuda moongates, Gibbs Hill Lighthouse and the Fairmont Southampton hotel.

Before she made a living as an artist Carole was actually a professional chef. She’s not neglected her culinary roots and her shops also stock her own range of jams, marmalades, mustards, rum cakes and chutneys. Other products on sale include jewellery boxes, linens embroidered with Bermuda cottages and flowers, perfumed soap and letter openers crafted from Bermuda cedar and banana leaf dolls.

In addition to the main Front Street location, Carole Holding has smaller branches at the Fairmont Southampton hotel and King’s Square in the historic town of St George.
