The Island Shop

When the locals want an island-inspired gift that’s a little more sophisticated than a coaster or tacky t-shirt the Island Shop is where they flock. Local artist Barbara Finsness, a graduate of the Moore College of Art in Philadelphia, initially sold her unique ceramics and linens through other stores. Their huge popularity, however, justified a dedicated store. So in 2002 she opened her first shop on Old Cellar Lane. Buoyed by its success another one shortly followed on Queen Street.

Barbara’s range of ceramic products includes colourful ceramic plates, trays, mugs, cups and vases. Images of Bermudian culture are incorporated into all her designs. For example, the Bermuda Cottage Series depicts typical Bermudian vernacular architecture.

The Island Shop also stocks a range of similarly inspired fabric products. Colourful hand towels, embroidered pillows, scarves and ties grace the shelves. Barbara is always adding new products and designs to her range and recently launched her ‘Hearts’ collection of hand-made pendants, bracelets and necklaces. The store also sells cotton World Rugby Classic jerseys and Newport-Bermuda Race shirts. Those looking for something just a little out of the ordinary should certainly check out The Island Shop.
