West End Development Corporation
The West End Development Corporation (WEDCO) was established in the 1980s by the Bermuda Government to develop 214 acres of land in Bermuda’s West End.
Most development has taken place at the Royal Naval Dockyard, a former British naval base and now a major tourist attraction.
The West End has boomed in recent years as cruise ships have moved their port of call from Hamilton and St George to the terminals at Dockyard (Heritage Wharf and King’s Wharf). The reason for this is simple. In recent years cruise ships have become larger and today’s mega-ships cannot fit through the approaches to Hamilton and St George.
