Granaway Guest House
Granaway Guest House is a traditional Bermuda manor house built in 1734 as a sea captain’s home. In 1978 current owners Michael and Carol Ashton purchased it from a Russian prince and converted it to a guest house. Its competitive prices, however, mean it’s no longer a haven just for royalty.
The property has 5 tastefully decorated guest rooms, each with an en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, fridge and kettle. There is also a separate cottage that once served as the slaves’ quarter but now serves as a secluded, romantic retreat. ‘Granaway Cottage’ has a full kitchen, en-suite bathroom, fireplace, air conditioning, and a private patio overlooking Granaway Deep.
Breakfast consists of freshly baked muffins and fruit; frequently including bananas grown in the property’s large garden. Guests can take breakfast in their rooms, by the freshwater swimming pool or in the dining room which has a balcony with spectacular water views. Wherever it is taken, breakfast is served in silver and china crockery on Bermuda cedar trays.
The house overlooks Granaway Deep and is conveniently located for the Belmont Wharf for ferry services to Hamilton. Belmont Hills Golf Club is literally next door and Astwood Cove and the beaches at South Shore Park are just a few minutes’ drive from the house.
Both Michael and Carol hail from families with a long tradition in the hospitality industry and are more than happy to pass on advice and guidance about Bermuda to their guests.
