Flanagan’s Irish Pub, Restaurant and Sports Bar
Every city has one and Hamilton is no different. Welcome to Flanagan’s; Bermuda’s only Irish pub. Thankfully, unlike many of its counterparts, it doesn’t go over the top with replica farming implements, Irish road signs and other meaningless paddywackery (somewhere there is a factory churning out this rubbish and we’ll bet our last dollar its not in Ireland). As well as tourists and locals, some authentic Irish expats are known to frequent this bar.
Located right on Front Street in the Emporium Building there are actually 2 ways to enter. If the doorman at the top of the stairs on the Front Street entrance doesn’t like the look of you, go a few yards to the left to the Emporium Building entrance and try your luck there. Flanagan’s actually has 2 bars connected by a balcony. The smaller one is sports orientated and has multiple TV’s showing European soccer and other sporting events. We’ve spotted a few celebrities in here including English Premiership players Jason McAteer, Teddy Sheringham and Jamie Redknapp and his pop star wife Louise.
The larger bar usually features entertainment by a local band and there’s a small dance floor where you can strut your stuff. Or, if you prefer, just hang out at the bar where Dion will takes care of the liquid refreshments. To the left of the bar is a dining area with tables and a few intimate booths. Flanagan’s also has a veranda with excellent views of Front Street and Hamilton Harbour.
As well as being a watering hole, Flanagan’s is a popular dining spot. For an appetiser try its award-winning Bermuda Fish Chowder. Entrees include Irish favourites like Steak & Guinness Pie (strips of beef simmered in Guinness with mushrooms, onions and potato in a light pastry crust). Catch of the Day can be prepared in Irish, Bermudian, Jamaican and Cajun styles. Flanagan’s also offers an All Day Breakfast (eggs, bacon, sausage, tomatoes, black pudding and fries). Take our advice; it’s the best hangover cure in Bermuda.
Reservations are not normally required for dining, but for a veranda view of the entertainment on Harbour Nights (Wednesdays - summer) we’d recommend making one.
