MR Onions

It’s not called ‘Mister Onions’ but ‘Em are Onions’ (the Bermudian pronunciation of ‘They are Onions’) and refers to the fact that Bermudians are often called ‘Onions’. Though not far from the centre of Hamilton, it doesn’t exactly smack you in the face and announce its presence. However, now you’ve read this there’s no excuse for ignorance.
Situated on Par-la-Ville Road, near to the Esso City Auto Market, this bar and restaurant is owned and operated by the enigmatic Phil Talbot. Despite having a grin like Jack Nicholson, he’s actually a very nice man. After climbing the stairs to this second floor establishment, you first enter the bar. It has an English pub atmosphere and is popular with both locals and Bermuda’s expatriate community. Several TV’s show live sports like English Premiership football, NHL, NFL, NBA, NASCAR and boxing. If you’re a Toronto Maple Leafs fan then this is the place to be; they show every game live. MR Onions bar also has a few internet terminals for hire by the hour. Happy hour is from 17:00 to 19:00 (Mon – Fri) with reduced priced drinks.
The restaurant, at the rear of the premises, offers a varied menu. Amongst the appetisers are MR Onion Rings (battered onion rings served with a ranch dip) and Coconut Shrimp (4 shrimps dipped in coconut and deep-fried, served with a sweet and spicy dip). MR Onions is famous for barbeque entrees like Baby Back Ribs and BBQ Chicken & Ribs but also offers a sizeable range of pasta, seafood, steak and combination dishes. Sunday brunch is served from 12:00 until 15:00.
MR Onions has a no-smoking room and welcomes children. If you are having a party they also provide a catering service. Newly-arrived expatriates wishing to find a soccer team to play for might want to ask the management about joining their amateur team.
