Port O’ Call

Port O’ Call is an intimate restaurant located right on Bermuda’s main drag, Front Street. Its interior resembles that of an old ship; with recessed lights imitating port holes, brass fittings and cedar panelling. It’s the only upscale restaurant on Front Street offering al fresco dining at ground level. From the small terrace you can experience the bustle of Front Street and enjoy spectacular views of Hamilton Harbour.

The menu is contemporary with an emphasis on fresh seafood. It changes regularly to take advantage of the freshest produce available locally and can include offerings such as Griddled Bermuda Fishcake. During the lobster season, from September 1 to March 31, Port O’ Call offers fresh Bermuda spiny lobsters cooked in several ways, including curried.

Its cosy atmosphere makes it a favourite for businessmen concluding major deals. Over the years it has won numerous Best of Bermuda awards including Best Daily Specials, Best Power Lunch and Most Attentive Staff. Nearly 60 wines are available by the glass from a list that has received an Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator magazine.

In the evening each table is booked only once, meaning that the dining experience can be enjoyed in a relaxed and unhurried manner. Reservations are therefore strongly recommended. If you are unable to get a table try its sister restaurant, Bistro J, which shares the same kitchen.

A private dining room for up to 12 is also available.

I enjoyed the food, but the service was less than desirable. Our waiter was especially rude. He stated that he was trying to be funny. I was looking for a nice meal and nice atmosphere, not snide comments. We will not be back.

I go to a restaurant for the food but here the atmosphere was exceptional. The food was even better especially the pumpkin soup - delicious. The lobster and lamb were worth the trip from the States. I will return!

Four of us had a beautiful lunch there last week and going again today. Excellent grouper, impeccable service, just a delight.

The service carried the appropriate balance of attention and space. Impeccable. As I ate there often, I experienced the steak tartar, duck comfit, and a rack of lamb that caused me to drag my meal on for as long as possible. Many thanks to George and his gracious wait staff. Anne

Not impressed. Very pricey for small portions. Left hungry and broke.

Port o Call was closed for the summer for renovation; reopened in Oct 2008. Had lunch there in mid Nov 2008 - wonderful sleek contemporary space, twice the size of the previous establishment. The food was excellent although they ran out of several items - perhaps some challenges with the popularity. I'll go back. Prices were $$ - appropriate for a business lunch.

The food here is consistently good. The owner also has a restaurant in St George called Cafe Gio which is worth trying out if you are in the area.
