Video – John Smith’s Bay Beach

John Smith’s Bay Beach is a public beach in Smith’s Parish, Bermuda.

It offers a broad stretch of flat sand and shallow waters. Lifeguards are on duty during the season.

The beach is a little of the tourist track and is more popular with locals than visitors.

St George’s Parish is Bermuda’s easternmost district. It comprises St George’s Island, St David’s Island, and the rich enclave of Tucker’s Town.

Dockyard Glassworks – glassblowing demonstrations and glass sales sales
Bermuda Maritime Museum – historic museum occupying the Dockyard’s Keep (includes Commissioner’s House and Dolphin Quest)

The Royal Naval Dockyard was once a principal base of the UK’s Royal Navy. It is now one of Bermuda’s major tourist attractions and cruise docks (Heritage Wharf and King’s Wharf are here).

Video – Fort St Catherine

Fort St Catherine is situated at the north-eastern tip of Bermuda, just north of the town of St George. Construction began at the start of the 17th century, with several rebuilds over the next couple of centuries.

The fort is now a museum with displays including replicas of Britain’s crown jewels, weapons, and dioramas depicting Bermuda’s history.

There are a couple of beaches in the immediate vicinity. Achilles Bay is a small cove good for snorkelling. St Catherine’s Beach is longer and wider and was once the private beach of the Club Med hotel (now closed and demolished).

Blackbeard’s Hideout is a restaurant a bar overlooking Achilles Bay. It is part of the St George’s Club and is open during the summer to both guests and the public.

Fort Hamilton is a hilltop fort built in the mid-19th century to defend Bermuda from attack by US forces.

The rampart offers a great view of Hamilton and Hamilton Harbour, plus sights such as Bermuda Cathedral.

The fort’s narrow moat is one of Bermuda’s most unusual gardens.


Video – St David’s Lighthouse

The St David’s Lighthouse is one of two lighthouses in Bermuda (the other is the Gibbs Hill Lighthouse).

It was built in 1879 and is located on St David’s Island in St George’s Parish.

This video gives a good idea of some of the sights that can be seen from the top. These include Clearwater Beach, St David’s Battery, Fort St Catherine, LF Wade International Airport, and the town of St George.
