Advantages and Disadvantages of Taking a Cruise to Bermuda

Cruising to Bermuda, instead of staying in a hotel, has both pluses and minuses:

Advantages

  • One of the major advantages of taking a cruise to Bermuda is cost saving that can be made. Bermuda is a very expensive destination and hotel rates and restaurant prices are high. The price of a cruise is almost all-inclusive.
  • Cruise passengers only have to unpack once.
  • Ships offer a greater variety of activities and facilities than most of Bermuda’s hotels.
  • Ships offer a good range of children’s activities and entertainment. Babysitting services are also available.
  • The cruise ship is a closed and safe environment. Only passengers are permitted on board. Parents can let their children roam free with the knowledge they won’t be able to stray too far.
  • There’s no need to carry around huge amounts of different currencies or traveller’s cheques. Cruise ships operate a cashless payment system and prices are in US dollars.

Disadvantages

  • Because cruise passengers have already paid for their meals, most want to eat lunch and dinner onboard. This means they tend not to stray too far from the ship, severely limiting the number of Bermuda’s attractions and activities they experience. NCL have mitigated this somewhat with their All Ashore Dining Guide .
  • Staterooms on cruise ships are smaller than comparably priced hotel rooms.
  • Cruise passengers have much less time in Bermuda than those staying in hotels. 7-night cruises typically spend 2½ days in Bermuda, while 5-night cruises usually stop for 1 ½ days. Bermuda is a small country, but it has lots of beaches, museums, restaurants etc. Cruise passengers simply do not have the time to see and experience everything the island has to offer.
