I am a smoker who cruises with three other adults who although non-smokers don't mind being around smokers. I would like to point out that if ships get to strict on smokers, they stand to lose not only myself but three other cruisers who between us take about 10/12 cruises a year, and also spend a large amount of money in the bars.

So the real truth is finally out, its the cleaning of smoking areas is the problem and not the health of employees! As a smoker I have suspected this to be the case for some time. I agree with all the non smokers that it is unpleasant to smell smoke and be in confined areas with smokers, but at least their addiction is obvious!!!

Effective January 1 2008, Royal Caribbean will prohibit smoking in staterooms and suites on its ships, including those visiting Bermuda (Explorer of the Seas and Grandeur of the Seas). One lounge on each ship will also be designated as a non-smoking area. Passengers will be able to smoke so on starboard outer decks, designated areas in lounges and bars, and on stateroom and suite balconies. Guests smoking in their staterooms will have a cleaning charge added to their onboard accounts.
