Those of you who have been to Bermuda a long time ago may remember this restaurant as the Fisherman’s Reef. Following a major redesign in 2002, it reopened as the Barracuda Grill and went onto win its first of many Best of Bermuda Awards.
This seafood restaurant has an upmarket contemporary look with numerous booths separated by etched glass partitions. Designer lamps hang from the ceiling, bringing out the gentle tones of the mahogany furnishings. It’s certainly a great setting for a romantic meal for two.
Before dinner, patrons can enjoy a range of interesting cocktails at one of the funkiest bars in Hamilton. Senior bartender Ryan Gibbons is widely regarded as the most knowledgeable mixologist on the island and has the awards to prove it. The restaurant also boasts an extensive wine list, of which around 15 are available by the glass.
Executive chef Derek Myers has created an innovative menu dominated by generous portions of seafood such as Gilled Bermuda Rockfish and Maryland Crab Cakes. For a starter try their award-winning Fish Chowder or Grilled Fresh Figs. Stray carnivores can choose from dishes like Niman Ranch New York Steak or Beef Duo (char grilled filet mignon and sous vide short rib).
The Barracuda Grill is situated upstairs from the Hog Penny Pub, on Burnaby Hill in Hamilton (just off Front Street). It’s open for lunch Monday to Friday, and dinner every day of the week. Reservations are strongly recommended. After an evening of fine dining pop downstairs to the pub and join in the fun.
The Barracuda Grill is owned and managed by the Island Restaurant Group. Other restaurants in the chain are the Hog Penny, the Pickled Onion, Victoria Grill, and the Frog & Onion. Check their Facebook page for special offers and the latest news.

This restaurant was my favorite every time I visited Bermuda on business – which fortunately was rather often. Two years ago I moved to the island.
I have been a regular business and pleasure customer frequently and I’m always treated to delicious meals, great service and nice ambiance.
Would highly recommend.
Six years ago was the first time my husband took me to this breathtaking Island and we had gone to Barracuda and can’t say enough about it. Very upscale, service very attentive and the food is outstanding. On a recent trip in March 2010 my husband and I had yet another romantic dinner there. If you want a special night, make reservations there. See you when we return!
My husband and I were in Bermuda for our mini-moon. The Barracuda Grill is where we had our very best meal. Every course was elegantly prepared, with a wonderful combination of tastes and layering of flavors, with fresh ingredients and great presentation. The wine and martini menus are also excellent; as was the service. Any chance we will see a cookbook from Chef Myers.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES order the "Recession" special.
I didn’t complain at the time, as I was someone’s guest.
For $35, plus 15%, I was served
1/2 glass of cheap Merlot, an appetizer consisting of four(4) 1"x1" corn chips with yesterday’s tuna salad dolloped on top, a 4-6oz main course of pasta that had a half of a mushroom diced onto it, and a cup of instant pudding for desert. Waitress was pleasant, but could hardly contain her comments when we ordered.
It’s true… you CAN make money during a recession this way. Once. But only once from me.
This meal was a serious RIP OFF.
My husband and I had dinner there right after our wedding. The cocktails were amazing. We ordered the ruby slippers. He had the lamb and I had the ribeye. We can honestly say it was one of the best meals we have ever had.
I had a nice experience at the Barracuda Grill. Staff were friendly and the food was excellent. Prices are mid-range. Starters averaged around $10-15 and a main $30-35.
