Pharmacies

Pharmacies are located throughout Bermuda. In addition to dispensing medicines, most also sell cosmetics, health and beauty products, toiletries, drinks and snacks, postcards, gifts, and toys. Most are open 7 days a week, with reduced opening hours on Sundays.

The market is dominated by the Phoenix Stores group. Their flagship store is the Phoenix Centre, a 3-level store in the centre of Hamilton. They also have a large store at the Royal Naval Dockyard (Kings Wharf/Heritage Wharf) that caters to cruise ship passengers. Lindo’s are a local supermarket group and have pharmacies at both of their stores.

Visitors should bring enough prescription medications for the length of their stay. It’s a good idea to pack it in carry-on luggage in case bags go missing and to keep a list of medicines in your wallet or purse.

According to the guidance issued by HM Customs Bermuda in the notice Clearing Customs (issued 12 November 2012) visitors who have been prescribed medication by a physician are allowed to bring a ‘reasonable quantity for their own use during their stay in Bermuda’. Prescription medicines do not have to be declared on Customs Form 98. To avoid any problems the notice goes on to state that medications should be labelled and ‘should be kept in the original containers provided by the pharmacist.’

It should be noted that marijuana is prohibited even if it has been legally prescribed by a doctor. Visitors on a methadone programme are not permitted to bring the drug into Bermuda. They should contact the Chief Medical Officer (441-278-4921) before travelling for advice.

US and other overseas prescriptions are not valid in Bermuda. You’ll need to visit a local doctor to obtain prescription medicines on the island.
