Bermuda Weather – April

Spring is here and things are beginning to warm up in Bermuda in April. With the improvement in the weather, the official high season begins and the first cruise ships begin to arrive.

Air temperatures are up by around 3 F on March. The average high is now 71 F and average low 63 F. Mean relative humidity in recent years has averaged 74.4 percent.

Sea temperatures rise to around 68 F. It’s still a little cool for swimming and snorkelling though. Most locals wait until the end of May before taking to the water. Divers need to wear a full wetsuit.

The days are becoming brighter. Expect around eight hours of sunshine each day (one hour more than the annual average). The sun rises around 6.45 am and sets around 7.50 pm.

The warmer weather sees some major events taking place. They include the Bermuda International Film Festival and the somewhat bizarre Peppercorn Ceremony in St George.

Good Friday is the only public holiday in the month. Many Bermudians celebrate it by spending a day at the beach and flying kites. There’s a large free beach festival at Horseshoe Bay.

Humpback whales pass the island as they travel from the Caribbean to the feeding grounds in the north Atlantic. Various companies and organisations offer whale watching trips. They include Blue Water Divers, Fantasea Bermuda, the Island Tour Centre, the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute, and the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo.

April also sees launch of the seasonal ferry service from Royal Naval Dockyard to St George (Orange Route).
