World Rugby Classic
If you detest rugby, or in fact don’t even know what it is, don’t think that this event is not for you. We’ve attended the Bermuda World Rugby Classic for many years, spent all our time partying, and have never seen a game. The same can be said for our participation at that other Bermudian celebration; Cup Match.
However, for those interested in sport we’ll provide a brief introduction to what the World Rugby Classic is actually supposed to be about. Held at the National Sports Centre, the Classic is a rugby competition featuring 8 teams of former international players. All games are held in the evenings (if on a weekday) or at the weekend meaning that the Classic is well attended by both locals and visitors.
The tournament kick offs with a street party on Bermudiana Road with DJ’s and Gombeys. Many restaurants on this street move their dining areas outside and offer special, reduced-priced menus. The week also features the On The Waterfront Party at Barrs Bay Park, not to mention the nightly debauchery in the beer tent at the National Sports Centre.
