Remembrance Day Ceremony

Every year on November 11 the people of Bermuda remember the dead and surviving veterans of World Wars I and II. Remembrance Day is a public holiday in Bermuda and the ceremony held to commemorate it usually draws a large crowd of both locals and visitors.

Just before 11 am, a parade, composed of an ever decreasing number of war veterans, the Bermuda Regiment Band and others, makes its way along Front St to the Cenotaph. After inspecting the veterans, the Governor, followed by the Premier and other dignitaries, lays a wreath at the base of the Cenotaph.

I actually attended the Remembrance Day Service in Bermuda as the Senior Naval Officer’s Driver on behalf of the Royal Navy in 1980 and 1981. I would like to say what a beautiful service it was in such beautiful surroundings. It will always hold a place in my thoughts on the 11/11.
