Acts for the Bermuda Music Festival 2007 have been announced. Headliners include Smokey Robinson, Lionel Ritchie, and Natasha Bedingfield. The 3-day event will take place October 3 to 6 and will move from its usual home at Dockyard to the National Sports Centre. Tickets are available from Sound Stage in the Washington Mall and start from $50.

The Association of Canadians in Bermuda will be holding their annual Canada Day celebrations at Chaplin Bay beach tomorrow (June 30). The event runs from 12 to 5 pm and includes an official welcome and singing of the national anthem at 1.30 pm and a children’s sandcastle competition at 3.30 pm. Other activities planned include volleyball, tug-of-war and limbo competitions. All are welcome.

The 11th annual Rubber Duck Derby will be held on at 2 pm on June 3 at Ordnance Island in St George’s. The plastic duck race raises money for local hospice Agape House.

The first Harbour Night of 2007 got off to an unfortunate start yesterday. A horse and carriage bolted from their owner and rampaged down Front Street injuring around 20 people. Harbour Nights are held on Front Street in Hamilton every Wednesday evening throughout the summer. The street closes to traffic and becomes the setting for a celebration of Bermudian taste, culture, and shopping.

The Bermuda National Trust’s annual Palm Sunday Walk will start at 2 pm on Sunday April 1. The 2 mile walk will start at Spice Valley Middle School and follow a route through Warwick Parish. Call 236 6483 for further information.

The Bermuda National Gallery celebrates its 15 birthday tomorrow (March 15) with a series of events that includes the official opening of the Par-la-Ville Park Sculpture Garden (March 15 3 pm) followed by a Jazz Night with Gita Blakeney Saltus and the Tony Bari Trio (5.30 pm to 8 pm).

Comedian Jimmy Keys is returning to Bermuda for one night only. The comedian/musician spent 13 years on the island before moving to the US in 1990. The show will be held at the Fairmont Southampton on New Year’s Eve. Tickets cost $199 and include cocktails and dinner.

Premier Ewart Brown confirmed yesterday that Bermuda will host the 2007 PGA Grand Slam of Golf. As previously predicted the 36-hole stroke-play competition will be held at the Mid Ocean Club. The prestigious event has been held at the Poipu Bay Golf Course in Hawaii for the last 12 years.

Bermuda’s Christmas Boat Parade will take place on December 9 at 6.30 pm in Hamilton Harbour. The annual event is now in its 9th year and features boats of all sizes decorated with festive lights.

The Classic Lions beat Australia 10-5 in the final of the Bermuda World Rugby Classic at the National Sports Stadium on Saturday evening.
