  1. The Scarlet Onion says:

    Sir,
I have just read through the ‘Municipalities Act 1923’ and can see clearly that the only reason for the ‘PLP’ Government too wish the control of the ‘Corporations’ above and beyond their natural ‘assets’ (property, etc. which by the act is the property of the Government/people of Bermuda or ‘Public property’ and stands under the record of the ‘Attorney General, Accountant General and the prevue of the Finance Minister already (Mrs. Paula Cox)) is the ‘10%’ perineum tax that ‘Corporations’ charge.
10% is the mark of true ‘Capitalism’ and 8% should be applauded! There are no other Jurisdictions in the world that operate under this percentage. Ask ‘Mr. Michael Bloomberg’ Mayor of New York City!
Payroll Tax has been doubled by the ‘PLP’ in their short time in power. The ‘People’ have not felt it yet because the ‘PLP’ have less than ‘cleverly’ placed the burden of the additional taxes on the ‘Employer’.
There is no way they can claim that this will not affect Bermudas’ standing as a global financial center! Any claims to improve governmental services smacks of ‘Socialism’. Revenue for Government dose not correlate with revenue for the ‘People’. Revenue for the ‘People’ is the amount of money that the people take home on ‘payday’!
Any claims by ‘Socialistic’ political parties to represent the ‘Worker’ have been proven beyond a doubt to be false. The only power that a ‘Worker’ truly has is the ‘Money’ he takes home on ‘Payday’!
Every other nation that we as Bermudians value as ‘Allies’ and ‘Friends’ claims to be ‘Capitalistic’ and ‘Anti-Socialistic’ and I for one know that they live in complete denial of the facts. 35% tax is ‘Socialism’ no matter how you color it.
The ends of ‘Government’ being the ‘Contentment of the People’ it is not my place to decide what or who others should vote for when electing a government. There are however drawbacks too ‘Socialist styled Governments’ that I can and will point out.

    1. Those who can’t afford taxes don’t pay them and are born ‘Outlaws’ as tax evassionists.
    2. Large weekly Government Revenues unaccounted for, create an environment of ‘Political Corruption’.
    3. The ‘Gap’ between the ‘Rich’ and the ‘Poor’ becomes increasingly more difficult to ‘Overcome’.

To be politically savvy and win votes, try ‘Lowering the Taxes’, 9.6%? Show the ‘People’ that you are willing to ‘Work’ for ‘Them’.

I remain The Scarlet (embarrassed) Onion.
