Island unscathed by Bill
August 22nd, 2009Hurricane Bill passed Bermuda this morning, causing little damage and minimal interruption to services. Its closest point of approach was 195 nautical miles west of the island at 6 am. At this time it had been downgraded to a Category 2 hurricane.
The Causeway and airport have reopened, although all outgoing flights except the British Airways service to London have been cancelled.
BELCO reported just over 1000 residents experienced power outages, mainly as a result of debris falling onto power lines.
