Premier to deliver major speech at Howard University

September 16th, 2009

Premier Dr Ewart Brown will deliver the Opening Convocation at Howard University on September 25th 2009.

Howard University President Sidney Ribeau invited the Premier to speak. In a letter he said: ‘The Convocation traditionally features an address by an individual who has made outstanding contributions to his or her given field, who has made a significant impact on society at large and whose message would serve to broaden the horizons of our students and other members of the Howard family.’

Premier Brown is part of the undergraduate class of 1968 at Howard University and graduated from Howard’s medical school in 1972. He received a Distinguished Alumni Award from the storied institution in 2008.

‘It is a tremendous honour to be invited back to Howard in this capacity,’ Premier Brown said. ‘The selection of Convocation speaker is a big deal around campus and I am truly flattered they would think I am a worthy choice.’

On September 24th, Premier Brown will be back on campus to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the introduction of African American studies at Howard University. The Premier was a student at the school during that time. The event on the 24th will also commemorate the 25th anniversary of African American studies being an academic requirement for all undergraduate students.

Bermuda has an active Howard University Alumni Association.
