Bermuda is turning up the heat with its new Sizzling Summer Promotion, offering up to $600 in resort credit based on room nights booked. Guests receive a $600 credit when booking a six night stay, $500 credit when booking a five-night stay and $400 credit when booking a four-night stay.

The Department of Tourism teamed up with the Bermuda Hotel Association for this exclusive promotion, available for booking April 1 – 30 for travel May 1 – October 31, 2010.

Participating hotels include: Cambridge Beaches, Coco Reef, Elbow Beach, Fairmont Hamilton Princess, Fairmont Southampton, Grape Bay Beach Hotel, Grotto Bay, Newstead Belmont Hills, 9 Beaches, Pompano, Reefs, Rosedon, Royal Palms, St. George’s Club, Surf Side, Tucker’s Point and Willowbank.

Premier in Saudi Arabia

Premier Ewart Brown and Mrs Brown were the official honoured guests last evening as HRH Prince Khaled bin Sultan bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud hosted the Third Annual Khalediah Horse Show outside Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The Prince, who owns the Elbow Beach hotel, is an avid horse breeder and owns more than 1000 Arabian horses around the world.

“Wanda and I were honoured to have been invited by His Royal Highness to this important event. Prince Khaled reminded us of his long association with Bermuda and seemed excited about the future of Elbow Beach,” Premier Brown said.

The horse show will run through Friday. The Premier will have a lunch meeting with Prince Khaled on Thursday before departing for the United States on Friday.

Elbow Beach hotel to close main building

The Bermuda Sun reports that the Elbow Beach hotel will close its main building in November. Accommodation will comprise just 98 hillside suites and cottages.

The newspaper quotes general manager Frank Stocek as saying ‘After 101 years of grand hospitality, Elbow Beach is poised to offer guests the next level of luxury accommodation in Bermuda. Our recently renovated garden cottages and suites have been extremely well received by our guests, and they will be further enhanced while the renovation plans for our legendary main building are being developed.’

Butterfield assists local sporting events

To further sport in Bermuda, Butterfield has contributed $25,000 to two events this month.

Butterfield’s Executive Vice President, Corporate Development, Michael Collins today presented Bermuda Bicycle Association President, Peter Dunne, with a cheque for $10,000 to go towards the 2009 Butterfield Bermuda Grand Prix.

Mr Dunne thanked Butterfield for its generous donation, saying ‘The Bermuda Bicycle Association is thrilled to have Butterfield’s support for this most significant race of our calendar. Having a partner such as Butterfield will allow us to continue the 20 year tradition of the Bermuda Grand Prix that has served to highlight the development of the sport of cycling in Bermuda.’

Butterfield also gave $15,000 to help fund the 5th annual Elbow Beach Celebrity Tennis Classic, scheduled for September 23 to 26 2009 at the Elbow Beach hotel.

Classic Organizer David Lambert said, ‘The Elbow Beach Tennis Classic is currently in its fifth year. Funds from this event are invested in Bermuda’s top junior team players that will partake in the ITF (International Team Federation) world ranking junior tournaments.’

The Seahorse Grill is the people’s choice

A fine dining restaurant at the Elbow Beach hotel has received a top award at a local food festival.

The Seahorse Grill received numerous accolades in this year’s Bermuda Gourmet Getaway People’s Choice Challenge including the top honour for Best Overall Fine Dining Restaurant in Bermuda.
