Visitors coming from Hamilton can take the 7 pm ferry. The last ferry from Dockyard to Hamilton is at 11.30 pm.

Yesterday Premier Ewart Brown announced the Sandys Parish resort will undergo an $80 million dollar redevelopment and reopen in May 2011.

He said, “This development is yet another step on the path to revitalizing Bermuda’s tourism product to ensure we regain our reputation as a first class resort destination. This new development is also going to provide jobs during the re-development as well as additional jobs once the resort re-opens in 2011.”

The developer has been hired by Lawrence Doyle. The New York hedge fund manager purchased the property in 2008.

Disabled access ramps will be set up at Clearwater Beach in St George’s Parish, Somerset Long Bay in Sandys Parish, and a third, yet to be named beach.

The announcement was made last week by Derrick Burgess, Minister of Works and Engineering.

He said, ‘Our wheelchair users will now be able to reach the beach without the difficulty normally associated with moving through heavy sand.’

The ‘Grand Slam Package’ is an attractively priced vacation package that includes four night’s deluxe accommodations, breakfast and dinner daily, and tickets to the final round of the PGA Grand Slam of Golf. Willowbank is a non-profit, non-denominational, Christian owned and operated hotel and conference centre situated on the scenic peninsula overlooking picturesque Ely’s Harbour in Sandys Parish, Bermuda. In existence since 1960, the 170 room hotel features panoramic views of the ocean, food prepared daily by world-class chefs, recreational activities and a recently completed 250-seat conference centre.

The Royal Gazette says that the Clintons arrived by private jet on Tuesday evening and are staying at Cambridge Beaches. The hotel and the Premier’s press secretary Glenn Jones have declined to comment.

It is not the Clinton’s first visit to the island. In 1979 they stayed at Horizons and Cottages. Their only daughter, Chelsea, is thought to have been conceived here.

Ironically, Hurricane Bill is expected to come close to Bermuda on Saturday morning.

The 3-night event will be held October 29-31 and will feature Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer Quincy Jones and R&B singer Ne-Yo.

The venue this year is the Keep Yard at the Bermuda Maritime Museum at Royal Naval Dockyard in Sandys Parish.

The resort in Sandys Parish took first place in a list of the 10 Best Coast Eco-Resorts, published in the April 2009 edition of Coastal Living magazine.

One of the resort’s unique cabanas was featured on the cover and an article praised the main restaurant, Hi Tide, saying it ‘turns out some of the best meals on the island.’

The new store will cater primarily to cruise ship passengers docking at the former naval base.

The company also plans to move its store in the Clarendon Building to the new Victoria Place development on Victoria Road, Hamilton.
