Munro Beach Cottages closed in July 2007. It was subsequently purchased by CrossHarbor Capital Partners of Boston, an alternative investment company specialising in real estate and distressed assets. In 2010 Moongate Resorts announced plans to partner with CrossHarbor and develop the property into a small resort with 26 two-bedroom hotel suites and a restaurant. Nothing came of the plans. In 2012, Sam Byrne of CrossHarbor Capital Partners was interviewed by the Royal Gazette. Byrne stated that the company was evaluating its plans for the site. He cited various factors holding the project back including poor market conditions, high development and construction costs, and restrictions on foreign ownership. We have kept this listing online so any of our readers searching for this property are aware of its closure.

You could not find a better location if you are coming to Bermuda for a quiet, relaxing golf vacation. Munro Beach Cottages nestle between the world-famous Port Royal Golf Course and a private beach at Whitney Bay. It looks out westerly on the Atlantic Ocean guaranteeing spectacular sunset views.

The kitchens are fully equipped with refrigerator, microwave, stove, oven, coffee percolator and toaster. Barbecues and a daily maid service are also provided.

Munro Beach Cottages are quite secluded, but that’s one of their main selling points. If you don’t fancy cooking every night one of Bermuda’s finest restaurants, the Cedar Room at Pompano Beach Club is very close by as is Greg’s Steakhouse at the Port Royal Golf Course.

Reviews and Additional Information

  1. Patti and Gary Gardiner L.I. NY. We have stayed at pompano next door a few times. Very nice good meals I always walk over and sit on the beach or look for shells. I guess and reflect on memories of past stays at Munro cottages. Last time I saw a few motor scooters and talked to a guy who said a few locals were renting them Everyone who has responded above loved the quaintness of the cottages. Could use a new oven but all of us loved the peacefulness and beauty of the views. So many memories. A shame a realtor doesn’t read these people longing for a respite like this and reopen. A piece of all of our hearts were broken.

  2. This brought tears to my eyes learning that Munro Beach Cottages was closed. My husband and I always wanted to email or call you Dawn and see how you and John were, but as so often happens things got in the way or pushed off till tomorrow. We stayed at Munro for 11 years straight evidently a few years before it closed. It wasn’t only the absolute beauty of the hill with the crescent beach, but the anticipation of seeing Dawn & John. There is so much history on that little hill that you related to us and you made it so comfortable and warm for each of our stays. We remember visiting John when he was working at another place that we don’t remember the name of. We were trying to make future plans to get back to Bermuda. If we do I hope we can find you again to say hello. Although we have not returned for a long time we were always comforted by the thought that you were there and we would see you “soon”. We are Max (Melissa) & John from Long Island, NY. Stay safe and hope you are well. As they say, thanks for all the memories.

  3. We stayed in Munroe Cottages in 1976 and golfed at Port Royal Golf Course. We rented scooters and just enjoyed everything. It is so sad to hear that it is no longer open. What a spot! Just beautiful!

  5. I absolutely LOVED MUNRO Cottages. I’ve only had the opportunity to visit Bermuda once on my 26th Birthday. 14 years later, my daughter is 20 and the resort is closed. It was absolutely HEAVEN ON EARTH. I watched the sunset Everyday and the Sunrise acrossed the highway every morning for 7 days. I would have loved to bring my Husband here. I will definitely miss it. It needs to reopen.

  7. This is where my husband, John proposed to me…on a wonderful January morning. Such a lovely place to stay…and Dawn and Valerie made it extra special. I hope you are doing well. I think of our last conversation before we left for the states. Pray all is a-okay. Miss you.

  8. So sad to see Munro cottages closed when we tried to book a 3rd stay there. We found it to be HEAVEN ON EARTH!! the most peaceful, restful and convenient vacations we had to date. My husband is a golfer- and need I say more. If they reopen or anyone knows of something comparable- like there is- please post on this site. We were your Long Island travel agents, recommending you to anyone going to Bermuda. So sad that that view is going to waste. God’s speed to Dawn and her family

  9. Always enjoyed our stay at Munro Cottages. Always stayed at the end cottage right next to the famous par 3 with the Atlantic as a water hazard. It was such a paradise, with the private beach and the wonderful hosts who took care of us. We will miss it very much.

  10. So sad to learn Munro Beach is no longer. I visited with a friend for several years back in the mid ’70’s. It was a cherished escape with fond memories for so many years. Was hoping to visit again as I approach retirement. Guess I waited too long. Thank you though for the beautiful memories I still cherish..sunsets, the bluest ocean ever, and the sweetest smells on earth 🙂

  13. Like many others who have posted here, we spent our honeymoon (May 2003) at Munro Beach and it is one of our most cherished memories. It was such a beautiful and serene place with nice people. It was the perfect way to start a lifetime together. I had no idea it had closed until I started researching going back there for our anniversary. Is there any hope that it will reopen? If not, does anyone have a suggestion for something similar? Thank you, Dawn, for a truly memorable chapter in our lives.

  15. My wife and I found Munro Beach while on our honeymoon in 1996 and playing golf at Port Royal. We returned the following year and made countless trips almost every year thereafter, considering our little cottage the most beautiful place in the world. We were there on the first flight after 9/11 and truly had the place to ourselves. So wonderful and an amazing memory of difficult times!!
We were to return in the fall of 2007 only to find it closed. We have not been back to Bermuda since and truly miss it. Dawn, thanks for the memories and best of luck to you and your family.
If anyone has found any place in Bermuda similar, please post it here. Dawn, you should start a referral service.

  20. We spent our honeymoon at the cottages and were looking at returning for our 25th anniversary. The real essence of Munro was that it was not an oversized soulless place. It was an extended family home place that had the best views and waters in the whole country.
Thanks for the opportunity to be part of the family.

  21. A piece of true Bermuda hospitality has passed on. You always felt you were staying with family rather than as a guest – probably learned more about the Island from Dawn and Roger than from any travel guide. Thank you for the memories.

  22. We wanted to return to Munro Beach last summer for our anniversary and was sad to see it had closed. We always stayed at one of the end units. Dawn was great! We ended up going to 9 Beaches which was nice, but not as memorable as the view and convenience of the cottage. We’d love to know why it closed. It really WAS Bermuda for us.

  25. The essence of Bermuda could not have been more perfectly embodied than by those wonderfully understated cottages of Munro Beach. As much as we look forward to our next venture to the island, I feel we’ve lost a bit of "Bermuda". We will hold fast to some wonderful memories. Thank you.

  28. My heart is broken!! When I was 10 years old my father was in the Canadian Navy and was stationed to Bermuda for 3 years. So when my family arrived in Bermuda, we stayed at Munro Beach Cottages for a few weeks until our house was ready to move into. Then 15 years later, I returned to Bermuda with my fiance to get married and we stayed for a glorious week at my favourite Munro Beach Cottages. Were hoping to return for our 20th anniversary but it looks like we’ll need to find another favourite place. Thanks for the memories!

  29. I had the wonderful experience to work at MunroBeach Cottages for almost 8 years. The family was a pleasure to work for and the setting was the nicest I have seen. I am going back to Bermuda for a couple of weeks of vacation and can’t wait to see Dawn and John. I will also find a way to witness a sunset from the property and remember the numerous repeat guests I got to know over the years.
