Blue Hole Water Sports

Based at the Grotto Bay Beach Resort at Castle Harbour, this water sports company rents motor boats, sailing boats, windsurfers, kayaks, snorkelling gear, and more.

The motor boats offered are 13 foot Boston Whalers, known for their great buoyancy and stability. They can seat up to 4 people and come with a Bimini top that offers protection from the sun. Customers are offered instruction, advice on the best places to visit, and supplied with a cell phone so they can contact management if they run into any difficulty.

Castle Harbour is body of water between St David’s Island and the main Bermuda Island. It’s completely enclosed so the water is calm. Renting a boat opens up an endless list of places to visit here, many only accessible from the water. Options include visiting the beach at Castle Island, snorkelling off the Nonsuch Island nature reserve, touring the billionaire’s enclave at Tucker’s Town, or cutting through Ferry Reach to visit the historic town of St George.

Prices are extremely reasonable, especially if you’re in a party of 4 and split the cost. The price for 4 hours is $150. Add say $30 for your fuel and that works out at $45 each. That’s a very cheap way to spend half a day in Bermuda. Stock up on provisions, buy some fishing lines, and you’ll have a great time.

Kayaking is another fun option. Places easily reached from Blue Hole Water Sports include the Blue Hole Park and Ferry Point Park, a coastal park with fortifications, a beach, and a historic British Army graveyard. Single and double kayaks are available.

Windsurfers are also available. They have beginner boards for first timers and advanced equipment for people with previous experience. Tuition can be provided if required. Another rental option is the Sunfish, a simple 2-person sailboat.

Blue Hole Water Sports also rents FunCats, basically small electrically-powered catamarans with a 2-person lounge chair on top. It’s a good option for those that just want to relax and cruise around the harbour.

Snorkelling gear can be rented by the hour or day. The wrecks of three barges lie within easy reach of Grotto Bay.

Blue Hole Water Sports is open every day of the week between March and December. They’re located at the Grotto Bay Beach Resort in Hamilton Parish, just a short distance from the airport. Their office is down at the hotel’s dock, next to Dive Bermuda.

Grotto Bay is on bus routes 1, 3, 10 and 11.
