Somerset Bridge Watersports is a family-run business offering jet ski tours, and boat and kayak rentals. The company is based at Robinson’s Marina in Sandys Parish. It’s just 4 miles from Royal Naval Dockyard (Kings Wharf/Heritage Wharf) so is extremely convenient for cruise ship passengers.
Jet ski tours depart several times each day and last 1 hour and 15 minutes. On the tour you’ll explore the west end of Bermuda, led by a knowledgeable guide. On the way you’ll make several stops, including one to feed the fish at the wreck of the HMS Vixen, but on the whole the tour moves at an exhilarating pace. The jet skis used are top of the range Sea-Doo’s. They can travel at speeds of up to 50 mph so you’ll see a surprising amount of the island on the tour. Group sizes are limited to 6 jet skis to ensure a personalised experience. Under Bermuda law jet ski drivers must be at least 16 years old. If you’re coming from Dockyard they’ll even pay your taxi fare.
Visitors looking for a more relaxing tour of the island can rent one of their Boston Whalers. They’re extremely easy to drive and are unsinkable. Before you set off you’ll be given instruction on how to operate the boat and advice on the best places to visit. Options include the beautiful Ely’s Harbour, the Great Sound, Little Sound, Mangrove Bay, and Hamilton Harbour. You can stop to do a spot of fishing or find a secluded beach and have a romantic picnic. Their 13 foot boats can accommodate 4 adults and their 15 foot boat can take 6 adults. Prices are very reasonable. Snorkelling gear, fishing tackle and coolers can be rented for an additional fee. Visit the Somerset Bridge Watersports website for prices and more information.
Single and double kayaks can also be hired here and offer the most economical and eco-friendly way to explore the coastline. You may be even lucky enough to spot a sea turtle or two.
Somerset Bridge Watersports is open daily in the summer. They close for the winter between the end of October and the end of March. Robinson’s Marina is situated in Sandys Parish, right next to Somerset Bridge, and on bus routes 7 and 8. Blue Water Divers are also based here and offer scuba diving trips and courses. If you need provisions for a picnic there are several supermarkets in the area (Somerset MarketPlace, and the Maxi Mart).
