This unpretentious Italian trattoria in Hamilton was opened over 35 years ago by Cesare Maranzana. While many men struggle to buy even flowers, Cesare set out to impress his wife by designing the restaurant in the style of his home town.
Service from the Italian waiters is efficient and friendly. The menu offers a wide range of Italian dishes and, despite its prime location in the business district, is reasonably priced. The thin-crusted pizzas are particularly good value and there’s 17 to choose from. Pasta dishes such as Ravioli Bolognese and Penne al Salmon are also good value.
Portofino is always busy, so reservations are recommended. If you can’t get a table try their take-away shop next door. The restaurant also boasts a pleasant outdoor terrace for al fresco dining.
The restaurant is open every day of the week. Lunch is served Monday to Friday, 11.30 am to 3 pm. Dinner service runs from 6 pm to midnight daily. Take-out is available 10 am to 10 pm, 7 days a week.
Portofino is located on Bermudiana Road in the centre of Hamilton. It’s just across the road from the ferry terminal so is handy for tourists visiting the city.

Worse experience ever!! The waiter’s attention was on table next to me, so much that the order was came back wrong. To top things off the dish the person I was with contained a piece of metal which was found while chewing (Could have turn for the worse had it been swallowed). So what was the overall response? I was told that I received what I order and the waiter corrected my order but not before letting out a “huff” and the manager played down the metal object as it was a casual mistake. I only received credit for one of the meals and was told that I was taking my meal to go even after I explained I no longer wished to complete my meal.
Is this the first time I have been there? NO! I have been there several times and been treated with respect while I enjoyed one of their many flavorful dishes which always left me wanting to go back. the price is very reasonable and the portions tend to be had to complete as they are generous.
So what has changed? It has been approximately 6 months since I last dined there and while the manager and several of the other waiters are the same, this is the first time I have seen this waiter. As far as what is happening in the kitchen? If the chef is in such a rush that he/she opens a can and permits 1.5″ long metal filings from the can to enter the meal, then maybe there are other things getting into the meals.
I am not satisfied with the all too relaxed way the manager explained how the metal object got into the meal. I never heard sorry, terribly sorry, or any sign of remorse other than removing the cost of the 1/4 eaten meal off the bill. The manager even went on to tell me that it was not a big deal. Guess not as it was not in his mouth.
Overall the restaurant has awesome tasting food but I am left to question what is in it that should not be. Reaction from manager left me feeling like this has happened a few time before.

Ate at Portofino recently and loved it. Returned two days later to just have dessert. When we told them we only wanted dessert we were told we would have to sit outside, even though they had many empty tables inside We were seated outside and completely ignored. We left after 20 minutes of seeing people all around us being served Too bad the attitude overshadows the good food. Will not return even though the food was very good. Most restaurants are happy to serve you no matter what you order. Portofino was a HUGE DISSAPOINTMENT!

Both cashier and person taking order were rude – guessing they might have just argued before we came. The food was just ok, nothing special.

The Caprese Pizza I just had this week was the best pizza I’ve ever eaten. It is LOADED with seafood, absolutely smothered in fresh seafood…..on a pizza? YES!!!!! Try it.

I’m Bermudian and in my early 40’s and have been hooked on the Caprese pizza since I was a teenager. My then boyfriend loved it and bugged me to try it, saying I’d love it, too. I was skeptical (seafood on a pizza?!) but took one bite and was HOOKED! I must say that they have skimped on the seafood over time, but it still contains a lot and is so, so tasty. I LOVE Portofino-the manicotti is my second favourite dish.

This is our very favorite place to have dinner in Bermuda. When on vacation there it’s hard not to eat at Portofino’s every night. Love those ice cream deserts. Sometimes it can be a little crowded. Staff are always really nice and help you get the table you want.

Had one meal here whilst working in Bermuda for 10 days. Would have returned but they were closed for refurbishment. I dined alone but was made to feel very welcome on a busy Saturday night – the waiters gave me a beautiful book about Bermuda to read whilst I ate and then gave it to me as a present when I left. The food was lovely but it was the friendly atmosphere that I most appreciated.

Went here when I came down for a job interview. This place is fantastic. I now live here and am totally addicted to the Tortellini alla Panna. It also one of the places in Bermuda with truly good service like you would find in New York or London.
