Spring is here, and things begin to warm up in Bermuda in April. With the improvement in the weather, the official high season starts, and cruise ships begin to arrive in large numbers.
Air temperatures are rising. The average high temperature is now 22°C (72°F), and the average low temperature is 18°C (64°F).
The water temperature rises to 21°C (70°F), but it’s still a little cool for swimming and snorkelling. Most locals wait until the end of May before taking to the water, and divers need to wear a full wetsuit.

When packing for an April trip to Bermuda, consider bringing a mix of warm-weather clothing and some layers for cooler evenings. Lightweight, breathable fabrics like cotton are ideal for daytime activities. Pack a light sweater or jacket for evenings when temperatures can dip. Comfortable walking shoes, sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen), and a light raincoat are also recommended.

Events, Things to Do, and Activities
The warmer April weather brings some major events. They include the Bermuda National Trust Palm Sunday Walk, the somewhat bizarre Peppercorn Ceremony in St George, and the popular Bermuda Agricultural Exhibition (Ag Show), which showcases the island’s agricultural heritage and local produce.
Good Friday is the only public holiday in the month. Many Bermudians celebrate it by spending a day at the beach and flying kites. There’s a large free beach festival at Horseshoe Bay.
Humpback whales pass the island as they travel from the Caribbean to the feeding grounds in the North Atlantic. Various companies and organisations offer whale-watching trips. They include Blue Water Divers, Fantasea Bermuda, the Island Tour Centre, the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute, and the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum, and Zoo.
April also sees the launch of the seasonal ferry service from the Royal Naval Dockyard to St George (Orange Route).

Sun protection is crucial year-round in Bermuda but becomes especially important in April as the UV index reaches very high levels. The average maximum UV index in April is 9, categorised as “Very High” on the UV index scale. This means unprotected skin can burn in as little as 15 to 25 minutes of sun exposure.
In April, solar noon (when UV radiation is strongest) occurs around 1:20 pm.
Visitors should take rigorous sun protection measures, including using a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen, wearing protective clothing and UV-blocking sunglasses, seeking shade between 10 am and 4 pm, and staying hydrated.
