The ferry terminal at Royal Naval Dockyard is prominently located on Dockyard Terrace, adjacent to the Bone Fish Bar & Grill and the Dockyard Visitor Services Centre.
If you’re a cruise passenger, you can’t miss it. You’ll see it on your left after you leave your ship (at Kings Wharf or Heritage Wharf) and walk to the main Dockyard area.
Ferries go to Hamilton and St George. The Dockyard to Hamilton service (Blue Route) operates throughout the year, while the Dockyard to St George service (Orange Route) runs only in the summer.
You can buy transportation passes, tokens, and ferry tickets from the Visitor Services Centre at Dockyard.
The Dockyard to Hamilton service (Blue Route ferry) operates on different schedules depending on the day of the week. On weekdays, the first ferry from Dockyard to the city of Hamilton departs at 8:00 am, with the last ferry leaving at 9:00 pm. On weekends and public holidays, the service starts at 9:15 am. The Dockyard to St George service (Orange Route) operates only on specific days during the summer season. As of 2024, it runs on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays with departures from Dockyard at 9:30 am and 11:15 am, and on Tuesdays and Fridays with a single departure at 9:30 am.
The ferry trip between Dockyard and Hamilton Ferry Terminal takes approximately 20 minutes. For those travelling to St George, the journey from Dockyard takes about 40 minutes.
As of 2024, adult fares for the Blue Route (Dockyard to Hamilton) and Orange Route (Dockyard to St George) are $5.00 in cash or $4.50 if using a token. Children aged 5-15 pay $2.75. Various passes are available.
The ferry stops at Dockyard, Hamilton, St George are accessible to persons with disabilities. Passengers requiring assistance should inform the crew.
Scooters are not permitted on any of the ferries departing from Dockyard.
Norwegian Cruise Line Exclusive Transportation
In addition to the public ferry services, Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) offers a dedicated shuttle boat for its guests.
This private ferry connects the Royal Naval Dockyard with St George, catering exclusively to NCL cruise passengers.
While separate from the public Orange Route, this service allows NCL guests to explore St George’s rich history and attractions.
The schedule for this exclusive ferry may vary, so NCL passengers are encouraged to consult with onboard staff for the most up-to-date timetable.
Alternatives to the Ferry System
Visitors can also get around the island using public buses. Buses 7 and 8 go to Hamilton, from where buses run to most areas of the island, including the town of St George.
Taxis are another but considerably more expensive option.
